Rugby World Cup

Although the Rugby World Cup 2011 in still over a year away Auckland is getting it's act together by upgrading Eden Park to cater for the on slaughter of tourists who will flock into New Zealand.

This reminds me of the Americas Cup when New Zealand won it back in 1995 and then went on to defend it in 1999.

Auckland put on its thinking cap and developed the viaduct basin to accommodate the super yachts and restaurants and bars sprung up around the waterfront.

For four months and everyday and night the viaduct basin was packed as if everyday was Friday night.

And then in the final race, us Kiwi's do it again and win the Americas Cup.

All we need now is some Kiwi inspiration to win the Rugby World Cup 2011 and keep it down under for four years like we did way back in 1987.

At least when New Zealand wins a major global event it puts us back on the world map since my OE back in 1991 the pommies thought New Zealand was part Australia.

Yeah right...but I used to put that conversation to a halt by saying what part of Wales are you from.

Getting back to the Rugby World Cup 2011 you might want to see what accommodation will be available.

As most hotels are looking at putting their tariffs up between 400% - 1000% per night.

Although some of these tariffs do include tickets to some of the games.

And then some budding Kiwis have put websites up...like mine I guess...but perhaps a little bit more sophisticated and designed so that us Kiwi's that might have a spare room in our house or even rent out the whole house for your stay, rather than staying in hotel or motel.

Brilliant Kiwi ingenuity but I have to say I am quite overwhelmed to see what Kiwis are asking for rent e.g. $600 a night bed and breakfast staying in a home in Remuera.

Well Remuera is wealthy area in Auckland and since the neighbor is in Remuera maybe I need to move the fence a meter or two so I too could charge $600 per night.

So lets do the sums if some gullible punter books this room for the entire World Cup event...hm mm $600.00 X 60 days = $36,000 NZD.

Surely with that amount of money you could put a deposit on something like this and then rent it out after the World Cup with the rent paying the mortgage and then if New Zealand wins the Rugby World Cup you would have somewhere nice to stay on your next visit down under.

Food for thought I guess...at the moment we haven't put a price on our rooms, however I don't think we will be charging as much as our counter part above...even if it means moving the fence post.

We will wait and see as we get closer to the Rugby World Cup and based on the volume of properties available supply certainly outstrps demand at this stage.
