Derby on Downs

Welcome (kia ora) to our home in Ellerslie, Auckland, New Zealand.

If you are heading to our neck of the woods as an International Student, Backpacker or perhaps you are in between moving homes and need somewhere comfortable to stay for a few weeks.

Our home borders the Ellerslie Race Course Steeple Chase Track or Remuera if I jump the neighbours fence.

It is at the end of a cul-de-sac and some punters like to call it the dress circle. I guess that comes about when the horse races are on and as we all put on our Sunday best to have flutter on the races.

The big events in any calender year is Boxing Day Races along with New Years Day Races and of course The Melbourne Cup.

Although you are not in Melbourne as such, but they do put on some races for the crowds and then you get watch the Melbourne Cup on large T.V.

And as us Kiwi's tend to have a few horses in the field it is good excuse to got out for the day and have some fun.

Auckland Cup Week is the major event during the year which sees crowds of 100,000 plus and a million dollar race

So if you are from the horsing fraternity and need some where to stay then you couldn't ask for a better location.

A hop,skip and a jump and you are on the race course and five minute walk will see you at the stadium.

It may take you a little longer getting home, depending on how much alcohol you have consumed.
